The Secret Oil To Treat Acne: Hello Grapeseed Oil

The secret is out: Grapeseed Oil is amazing, not just for anti-aging, Enter Acne.

It might seem odd, thinking oil Grapeseed oil is good for treating Acne. Wait, would oil not make the skin more prone to Acne?

What if i told you every skin type, I mean EVERY, is oil based at the top layer? It is a natural phenomenon that can not be brushed off. The skin produces oil, even at the top layer of the skin (to protect the skin). The only difference lies in the balance. While some skin type produces oil in excess, some are only moderate and others are very little.

Grapeseed oil to treat Acne

Now I’m not trying to say other products are useless. Matter of fact, Salicylic Acid, Tea tree, Benzoyl Peroxide are amazing and known as acne’s worst enemy.

Infact, a colleague of mine walked up to me and asked me how to get rid of Acne. She had not achieved long term results and I recommended Grapeseed oil (with Tea tree) in conjunction with a skincare regimen of the ingredients mentioned above. She looked at me like “whaatttttt?!” when I mentioned an oil.

Truth is that it lies in the skin’s pores and it’s inability to exfoliate the right way. That’s no news. Ask your dermatologist.

This means that the skin holds on to deadskin like a dog with a bone. This is where grapeseed comes in.

When the skin is deficient in Linoleic acid, it is an issue. However, the balance is in Grapeseed, which is high in Linoleic acid. Ok?

When the skin produces oil and it is deficient in Linoleic acid, the skin would continue to clog and cause acne and not all oils can help that. If you read my post on Argan vs Marula oil, you’d notice that Argan is high in Oleic acid. You should run fast and far from it until the skin is treated.

If you are worried that oil might make acne worse, eat food that are high in Linoleic acid. The skin produces it’s own oil and deficiency of Linoleic acid is going to make acne the skin’s enemy.

As Linoleic acid is now an essential fatty acid, take advantage of that. The body needs fatty acid to look healthy and supply, anyway. So win-win if you eat it. Skin and body would be so amazing, you’d have a secret.

I can not even fathom the idea of deadskin deep in the skin’s pores, unable to shed away and then formes acne. It’s annoying.

To use Grapeseed, you would have to incorporate it into your skincare regimen (which would also involve non comedogenic oils like Coconut Oil and Argan Oil. These would clog your pores) and also Linoleic acid into your diet. Go hard!

Grapeseed Oil for the Face

Don’t be scared now. It’s not going to clog your pores. It would reduce inflammation, control the skin sebum and provide the right acid to balance the skin oil. This will help reduce acne.

In treating any skin condition, the preference is to get products that can be left in the skin for a longer period of time to help battle that condition throughout the day. While it’s ok to use cleansers with Grapeseed or Linoleic acid, go for facial oils and a little goes a long way.

Other alternatives are Evening Primrose Oil, Rosehip Oil and Safflower.

While you prefer to use dry oils or oil free moisturiser, you could use a little of one of these and monitor the progress. These are the best anti-aging beauty/ base/ carrier oils too.

Back soon xx

  1. It’s funny, cause I’ve nver considered Grape Seed oil to help with my blemishes. But for 2-3 years now I’ve been using grapeseed oil as a makeup remover, and a long with my other skincare products but skin has been much better than before using this oil 😀

    1. Hey darling. That’s a pretty cool makeup remover, I’ve always used Bioderma but I’ve always used Grapeseed oil in lotions and diy butters. I will and should substitute/ alternate between Grapeseed & Bioderma. It’s actually a fantastic oil. Do you break out using it?

      1. No not all! I have acneprone skin, but I don’t find the oil to break me out at all. I massage the oil in to my skin, and then wipe it off with a cloth. Afterwards I just cleanse using a facial wash 🙂
